Alton windsurfers contribution for the dawn to dusk on May 1st was a very successsful day starting at 0600 with six wiindsurfers on the water.
Our aim was to run a continuous relay to see how many miles we could achieve in our 12 hours . As the wind was easterly our runs were very short approx 400m so it involved lots of gybes. The team was a mix of ex team 15 lads, experiences old members and some junior members. Each member clocked up 12 - 18 miles , however by the afternoon the wind had really picked up making the water quite rough and the turns more difficult, so slowing down our averages.
The team managed a very creditable 116 miles. The shore collection boxes totaled £132.12 thanks to a very junior member who spent most of his day collecting money!. At 12 0 clock we had 40 boards on the water. In all everybody had a good day.

CALSHOT FLYERS WINDSURFING CLUB CLOCK UP THE NAUTICAL MILES FOR CHARITY
Last Monday evening, 9th May, eleven members of the Calshot Flyers Windsurfing Club, sailed a total of 70.8 nautical miles, the equivalent of sailing around the Isle of Wight and a bit more, in aid of Windsurfing for Cancer Research (W4CR).
It was a lovely sunny evening with a light south westerly breeze with the tide dropping, making it a challenge to keep up wind. The course was 0.3 nautical miles long and the team of 11 windsurfers completed a total of 236 laps between them.
The Club donated the session fees for the evening and sold some wrist bands raising just in excess of £100.00 for the Charity, which was set up in March 2009 to increase awareness and to raise funds for cancer research, support and education. The Charity is aiming to raise £100,000 from their Sunrise Sunset 2011 campaign.
Calshot Flyers windsurfing club, for 8-18 year olds, is based at Calshot Activities Centre. It meets Mondays and Wednesdays every other week. It is an RYA Team 15 Club.

We had a brilliant day on 1st May at Castle Semple, 18 on the water at 12 noon in a nice 16-18kt easterly while the sun shone. Comfortable planning with an 8.0m (a bit over powered in the gusts). |

We had 20 people taking part and raised over £530 for the Charity. Thanks to the helpers Andrew Lucas. Clair Rogers, Karen Turner and the T15 crew. Special mention goes to Libby Rogers who raised over £114 on her own aged 11.

On Sunday 2nd May Glossop Sailing Club ran an event for the Windsurfing for Cancer Research charity. The idea was to get as many as possible to participate, dinghy sailors or windsurfers. In 2010, Glossop windsurfers had travelled to Pugneys in Wakefield to support the fundraising, this year we decided to stay at Torside.
We hoped to make this a mixed Dinghy and Windsurf event, the idea was to get as many as possible on the water at 12:00. On the day we arrived early to check the weather. A strong easterly was blowing down the reservoir from the Woodhead end. The anemometer showed steady 26 knots on the shore with gusts over 30.
Our dinghy sailors had been out in 20 knots the day before winning a High Peak interclub trophy. Considerable damage to kit and sailors meant they were easily persuaded that this was not their day!
It was up to the windsurfers. Seven of us launched from the slipway in zero wind as it is sheltered from easterlies and paddled out into the storm. We met up for a group photo on our teaching beach (Glossop's best kept secret). After some hard core speed sailing we returned back to club exhausted but happy. The sun shone all day!
Thanks everyone: Rebecca Stepehenson Viki Packman Jasper Kidger Peter Murphy Ian Mayall Marcin Gowora Mike Morris (in the safety boat - many thanks Mike!)
