Southend-on-Sea

Southend on Sea were pleased to be one of the registered locations for the Charity event. Despite a disappointing response from the locals a handful of kiters and windsurfers supported the event and arrived looking worse for wear at 5am. The Gayder family did us proud with windsurfers Aleksy Gayder his sister Megan and their mates from kent quickly covering the lawn with loads of kit. Myself and Allan from wet n dry also swapped our kites for windsurfing kit and joined them and their dad Dave on the water under a very gloomy sky. We were lucky enough for the sun to momentarily show itself soon after our first runs in the 10mph breeze and the weary faces brightened. A few others turned up a little later along with some of the kiters and as the day progressed the wind increased steadily to a max of 24mph. Locals contributed via personal sponsorship assisted by our favourite cafe and despite our small numbers all that did take part felt it was a worthwhile event and are looking forward to next year.
