Books

There are numerous books about cancer and the W4CR Trustees have listed some that they have read or that have come to their attention.

Whilst these books are an advisory read the W4CR charity trustees cannot be held liable if the content, recipes or suggested routes to fight cancer are taken on board but do not work in an individual's situation.
The books are grouped under three headings: Autobiography, Food/Nutritional studies and General Reviews of cancer treatments that may help, work or don’t work!

Autobiography
It’s Not About the Bike – Lance Armstrong -Lance ignored pains in his testicles because he thought he had been training too hard. This book is about his determination to beat cancer. An inspirational read.
Every Second Counts – Lance Armstrong - Lance needed to convince sponsors that he could train and win the Tour de France. This "follow-on" book is about his fitness commitment to prove he could win again.
Chemotherapy, Cakes and Cancer - Megan Blunt (aged 14) - Megan has written a humerous A to Z survival guide for living with childhood cancer. It is said to be for an age group of 9 to 14 but in fact it is a very good read for both a cancer sufferer or friends/family of any age. The book gives an understanding of the issues a sufferer can go through and explains some of the terms used when someone has the "big C". Megan has survived her treatment but sadly a boy who was with her in hospital died.  The boys father is the books illustator. A free download at www.clicsargent.org.uk

Food/Nutritional and Diet
Eat to Beat Cancer – Dr Rosy Daniel and Jane Sen – Plenty of advice and recipes to build the bodies immune system to help fight/prevent the disease by moving away from the latest "average" Western diet. The book refers to doctors/scientists in the 60's and 70's who said there was a link between diet and cancer and latest scientific studies are proving them right.  You do not have to switch to a "vegan diet" but the book has plenty of ideas to improve your bodies immune system with both your food and vitamins intake.
